Rare Antique Alice In Wonderland Card Game.

The New and Diverting Game of Alice in Wonderland published by Thomas De La Rue and Co Ltd Manufacturers to His Majesty (HRH Edward VII) 1918 (as stated by V&A Museum)

A chance to own a rare collectable piece of history.

In incredible condition this 104 year old full and complete pack of 48 cards is as good as the pack held by the Victoria and Albert Museum. Original telescoping box and rule book in possibly better condition. With only one card showing signs of use and damage but still complete (13 - The Youth Astounded - see pictures).

Please see all pictures for the condition of the item, as is understanable for an item of this age the box and cards do show some minor signs of use with discolouring to the cards, very slight scuffing to the outer box and slight discolouration to the bottom of the otherwise impecable inner box.

48 cards with the drawings of Miss E Gertrude Thomson taken from the originals by Sir John Tenniel.

As described by the V&A:

"This is an early example of character merchandising. Based on the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, this pack of cards shows drawings by Miss E Gertrude Thomson taken from the originals by Sir John Tenniel.

The pack consists of 48 cards or 16 sets of three. One card in each set is a Leading card. On this card are the names of the other two cards required to form the set. For example, the Leading card, `Alice Telescoping' tells you to find `Rabbit running away' and `The Fan', which complete this set. The complete pack is dealt out among the players and the winner is the one who can complete the most sets."

Please note this is not a standard deck of playing cards. They are a complete game designed to be played as stated in the rule book. Based on The book Alices Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
